He's not so good with faces. The subtle change in her features is largely lost on him. She is, after all, still crying, and still gone. He would be glad if he knew that it helped. Clearly, he didn't.

His shoulders slump. "It wasn't good enough, I'm sorry," he says. He wracks his mind, trying to think of anything else that he has that would be good enough, but he can't think of anything at all. "I'll find something better. I promise. I-I'll come back. I... what?"

She's talking? She's waking up? Her lips are moving, but she's not making a sound. "Chelsea?" Awake now? No? What is she saying? Maybe she knows he's here! She is trying to say something to -him-! It very important. He doesn't know how to figure out what she's saying.

Two syllables. That rules out things like his name, or 'I'm okay', or anything like that. What would she say that has two parts? He is at a loss. He watches, though.
